Auditor

The Auditor tool in the HFS Medicare Cost Report software serves two functions. It was originally designed for use by Fiscal Intermediaries, but non-FI clients have also found it to be a very useful tool.

Choose Tools, Auditor to bring up the Auditor.

  • Fiscal Intermediaries can use Auditor to facilitate their auditing process. Using Auditor, they can post adjustments electronically, eliminating unnecessary steps in the manual process.
  • Clients who are not Fiscal Intermediaries can use Auditor as a "what if" tool. By entering data for various scenarios, clients can see how adjustments will impact their bottom line.

Auditor also offers you the ability to "tag" individual adjustments, which enables you to isolate each adjustment and see its potential impact.

Auditor applies adjustments to a copy of the original report. Each time you apply adjustments through Auditor, the software creates a new adjusted (.MCA) file that can be viewed or printed. Auditor never changes the original file, so there is no possibility of a user inadvertently changing the original data.

Although Auditor does not change the original file, it is still fully integrated with that file. You can type in a worksheet, line, and column, and Auditor will display the original values from the worksheet. This type of immediate feedback allows you to make sure you're in the right place on the worksheet when you enter data into Auditor.
